Mina:

The participants in the conference on "The Concept of Mercy and Consideration in Islam" organized by the Muslim World League in Mina, expressed their highest thanks and gratitude to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz for the ease made possible by Allah in providing great Islamic services to the Ummah and its causes, and to the two Holy Mosques and their visitors, They praised the generous care and extraordinary services provided to the pilgrims by all government sectors, which made it easier for the guests of the Merciful to perform their rites in a climate of security, faith, serenity and comfort.

These remarks came at the conclusion of the conference attended by 500 scholars and intellectuals representing 76 countries from the Islamic Ummah around the world. In its recommendations, the conference emphasized the need to develop and improve the mechanisms, methods and means of religious narrative; while preserving the principles of identity constants which will take into account time, spatial and condition differences; yet stay firm and true to basic Islam and address the problems of contemporary societies.

The conference called for the adoption of Islamic values and humanities as an academic requirement for all disciplines in Arab and Islamic universities. It stressed the need to encourage research and studies that establish the principle of mercy and consideration in Islam and highlight its significance and seek to introduce and disseminate it. The participants also mentioned that mercy and consideration are the two most influential aspects of Islamic jurisprudence, and with them, its moral system became quite different from the utilitarian system.

The participants stated that Islam with its broad and inclusive mercy, unique cultural experience and genuine resilience is in complete harmony with time and place and coexists and cooperates with everyone; supported by testimony of documented historical facts, not inaccurate myths attributed wrongfully to Islam and Muslims. They recommended highlighting the aspects of mercy and consideration in Islam, by facing up to anyone who distresses people in their religion and their living, and those who sow the seeds of dissent among factions with their rotten ideas and extremist discourse, thus spreading hostility and hatred and grudge.

The Conference stressed the need to state that some of the manifestations of chaos and disorder that give rise to cruelty and violence currently happening in some Muslim countries do not reflect their genuine heritage and protracted cultural history. They called on all types of media to produce and broadcast quality programs aimed at promoting the value of mercy in Islam and highlighting it. They also call on experts to produce media content on the values of mercy and consideration in Islam to boost their true application in behavioral pattern.

The conference, which was inaugurated by His Excellency the Secretary General of the Muslim World League Sheikh Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Alissa, began with a speech by His Eminence the Grand Mufti of the Kingdom, Chairman of the Supreme Council of Scholars and scientific research and Ifta, Sheikh Dr. Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al-Sheikh said, Islam was chosen by Allah to be the final message of all revealed religions; the most comprehensive, the most encompassing to the meanings of goodness, charity, mercy and ease, tolerance and consideration for all people. And when God made this faith a religion for mankind until the day of resurrection, he made it suitable for every time and place; for every environment and countrie; and for every land and continent.

His Eminence the Mufti continued saying; among the characteristics of this religion that made this faith valid for all time, place and accepted by people throughout the ages; that it is a religion of mercy, ease and forgiveness. The Prophet (PBUH) described it as the religion of mercy, and forbade anyone of making it extreme.

The Mufti said that the difference in customs and environments has an impact even on the ruling of jurists, based on the observations of each jurist of the lifestyles of the folk who lived among them; so he issues fatwa accordingly, as long as the ruling does not violate the text of the Quran or the Sunna, and does not invalidate a legitimate ruling. Therefore, diligence in rulings and fatwas differed between scholars who are thorough because of this and in other aspects and manifestations of the consideration in Islam. This does not escape the sharp observation of the alert, the fair-minded person of the Islamic law, its provisions, principles and rulings.

The Mufti said that one of the manifestations of the mercy and consideration of Islam is the good treatment of the people of the Book who chose to stay in some of the lands of Muslims or those who entered it with a covenant and safety. They lived under the Islamic state; Islam has protected their blood, money, and honor. The Kingdom is a model for ease and the attitude of Islamic moderation, where it has become a Qibla for all Muslims, but also for non-Muslims who entered the country and its safety to live on its soil and go about their business in safety and security.

The Mufti appreciated the efforts of this blessed conference to achieve positive and pleasing results. He also thanked His Excellency the Secretary General of the Muslim World League, Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Alissa, and all other employees of the departments and offices of the Muslim World League, as well as, the participants in this conference; scientists, scholars and researchers for their scholarly research, and their valuable participation and contributions which have had an impact on the themes of the conference, and its various topics.

Next, the Secretary General of the Muslim World League delivered his address, and welcomed the scholars and intellectuals on behalf of the Rabita. He added that the gauge of conduct regarding the values of mercy and consideration reveals the extent to which they are grasped and applied. His Excellency also added that consideration is a fixed feature and a supreme value in Islam that some have needlessly distorted and limited, through utter “ignorance or fanaticism” to observing what’s forbidden, and neglecting what’s lawful.

The conference sessions’ themes continued, then they were followed by the address of the Director of the University of the Holy Quran in Sudan, His Excellency Dr. Ahmed Said Salman who said that it is only appropriate at this occasion to say something about Kingdom and the Muslim World League; and that is great appreciation coupled with our best wishes for success to the Custodian of the two Holy Mosques, and to HRH Mohammed Bin Salman; to the genuine Saudi people who do a lot for the guests of the Merciful God so they can perform the rites at ease; and appreciation to the Muslim World League and its Secretary General.

"We have seen this Rabita in all corners of the world, said Dr. Ahmed Said Salman. This great work did not come from idle talk; it has several implications. The first is honest intention and honest work for the sake of Allah. The second is the Organization’s and employees’ farsighted and clear vision to realize its expectation and hopes. The third is the scientific approach to planning. The fourth is the will and the trust in God Almighty. The fifth is the highly motivated organizers of this organization; they push their soul to the utmost limit of perfection of knowledge and action.

The director of the University of the Holy Quran called for the founding of a society of mercy and brotherhood whose motto is to spread and promote the value of mercy within society and provide relief to the afflicted and the underprivileged.

Professor Haroon Al-Rashid Ayoub, Dean of the Faculty of theology in the International Islamic University in Islamabad, said: the idea of the conference is that mercy and charity are the bases of Islam’s dealing with all people; in Mercy and Kindness, because Allah has limited the issue of sending the Prophet (PBUH) in Mercy, and made all inclusive to all worlds, not only to Muslims; and   order the believers to be fair and do good to those who didn’t swore them enmity to their religion, and not chased from their homes. Indeed Allah said He loves those who do so as just people “Muqsiteen.”

He concluded by expressing his appreciation for the great efforts for which the Kingdom is worthy of all thanks and appreciation, as well as the Muslim World League under the leadership of His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Mohammed Bin Abdulkarim Alissa is worthy of all praise and thanks. The Islamic Republic of Pakistan in general and the International Islamic University in Islamabad in particular benefit from these valuable efforts.

Dr. Mohamed Belhassan, head of the Islamic studies department at Ibn Tufail University in Morocco, said that when the light of Islam shone, the era of mercy was revealed; the time of compassion and tenderness has freed humanity of the yoke of cruelty and haughtiness.

He pointed out that the beholder of both authentic sources of Islam (Quran and Sunna) and the sources of legislation in general, the history of the Ummah, its thoughts, its culture, its literature, its history and its traditions, will find mercy omnipresent and dominant over the links of Islamic culture and thought, never absent in any area of life.

Dr. Belhassan concluded his topic saying that the choice of the Muslim World League for the subject of mercy and consideration in Islam for the Hajj Conference is a successful choice. It is the topic of the hour, which –God willing- will address the urgent issues, and elucidate Islam’s mercy to all worlds of different races and colors.
