Dr. Al-Issa Attends the Graduation of Seventy Thousand Male and Female Memorizers of the Holy Qur’an in Rwanda
Kigali:
His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, Secretary-General of the MWL and Chairman of the Organization of Muslim Scholars, attended the graduation ceremony of seventy thousand male and female memorizers of the Holy Qur’an. The event was held in the Rwandan capital, Kigali, in the presence of a large number of ministers, officials, scholars, and a great gathering of male and female students.
The ceremony comes in celebration of a distinguished group of young Muslim men and women who have completed the memorization of the Holy Qur’an, as part of educational programs and initiatives overseen by the MWL in a number of countries around the world, particularly across the African continent.
In his opening address at the ceremony, His Excellency the Secretary-General of the MWL highlighted the organization’s efforts in serving the Book of Allah and caring for its memorizers worldwide, foremost among them safeguarding them from all forms of extremist ideology and protecting them from recruitment by violent extremist groups.
During his speech and in his media statement, he said that the MWL is committed to teaching the Qur’an, affirming that all its work is carried out in coordination with — and under the direct supervision of — the governments of the countries in which it operates. He emphasized that official oversight of its programs and curricula by these governments is a core requirement of the MWL’s work.
He added: “We are pleased to invite all to review the outcomes of these Qur’anic institutes and centers, so they may benefit from this distinguished international model in Qur’an memorization, instruction, and the holistic development of its students. He further affirmed that, under the aforementioned government supervision, governments are partners with the MWL in both responsibility and success.
On behalf of the male and female memorizers, Dr. Abkar Waller Mado delivered a speech in which he commended the efforts of the MWL's academic institutes in supporting and caring for Qur’an memorizers, and in instilling the values of moderation and balance within them.
In his remarks, Dr. Mado also expressed his gratitude to the MWL's host country, Saudi Arabia, represented by its wise leadership, noting that the MWL stands as one of the Kingdom’s gifts and a product of its blessed efforts in serving Islam and Muslims.
He also expressed his gratitude to the MWL for its great efforts in caring for the memorizers of the Holy Qur’an—who are “the people of Allah and His chosen ones”—and for strengthening their religious awareness through the guidance of the Noble Qur’an and the Prophetic Sunnah, until they became beacons of moderation. He further commended all that the MWL offers to the Islamic nation in terms of benevolence and generosity, as well as its tireless efforts to promote coexistence and peace among the nations of the world.
The ceremony featured a visual presentation on the efforts of the MWL in teaching the Holy Qur’an, highlighting memorization and training programs and the outcomes of these efforts in strengthening the message of the Qur’an and disseminating its teachings.
During the ceremony, a select group of distinguished Qur’an memorizers and teachers were honored. Their Qur’anic and educational journeys were showcased, along with the achievements they attained and the positions they assumed after graduation—demonstrating the profound impact of the Holy Qur’an in shaping excellence and leadership.
