The Muslim World League Expresses Support for the Arab-Islamic Ministerial Statement on Holy Sites in Jerusalem
Makkah:
The Muslim World League (MWL) has expressed its support for the joint statement issued by the foreign ministers of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the Republic of Indonesia, the Republic of Türkiye, the State of Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates, concerning recent developments related to places of worship in Jerusalem.
The statement addressed the ongoing restrictions affecting access to Islamic and Christian holy sites in the occupied city, including limitations on entry to Al-Aqsa Mosque (Al-Haram Al-Sharif) and constraints impacting religious practices at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.
In a statement issued by its General Secretariat, His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, Secretary-General of the MWL and Chairman of the Organization of Muslim Scholars, reaffirmed the MWL’s position emphasizing the importance of safeguarding freedom of worship and ensuring unimpeded access to religious sites for all.
His Excellency underscored the ministers’ call for the cessation of measures affecting access to holy sites, the preservation of the historical and legal status quo in Jerusalem, and the need to uphold the rights of worshippers. He further highlighted the importance of constructive international engagement to support respect for international law and promote stability and mutual respect.
The MWL reiterates the importance of protecting the sanctity of religious sites and fostering an environment that upholds coexistence, respect, and the principles of international law.
