MWL Secretary-General Witnesses Roundtable Meeting of Muslim and Christian Leaders in Nigeria and the Signing of Agreements

In line with the Muslim World League’s initiative for social peace in West Africa and the resolutions of its conference, as set forth in the “Abuja Declaration,” which was unanimously adopted by religious leaders representing all religions and sects in the region under the patronage of H.E. Mr. Bola Ahmed Tinubu, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, Secretary-General of the MWL and Chairman of the Organization of Muslim Scholars, witnessed the high-level roundtable meeting of Muslim and Christian leaders in the region on “Religion and Building Social Harmony.” The meeting aims to strengthen joint action in the areas of conflict prevention and the protection of the national fabric in all its religious and ethnic diversity.
The meeting resulted in the signing of an initial package of agreements, most notably a memorandum of understanding between the Muslim World League and the Interfaith Mediation Centre in Nigeria; a memorandum of understanding between Jama'atu Izalatil Bid'ah Wa Iqamatis Sunnah in Nigeria and the Council of Christian Religious Leaders in Northern Nigeria; a memorandum of understanding between Jama'atu Nasril Islam in Nigeria and the Christian Youth Initiative for Peace and Development; and a memorandum of understanding between the Union of Ahl al-Sunnah Organizations in Nigeria and the Progressive Pastors' Alliance.
The Coordinating Body for Religious and Civic Leaders and Institutions in West Africa will oversee the implementation of the memoranda of understanding signed at the meeting, as well as all commitments under the Muslim World League’s initiative for social peace as set forth in the “Abuja Declaration,” ensuring their proper implementation, the achievement of their objectives, and the accuracy of their periodic measurements.
